The state government is asking swimming pool owners, local councils, key water safety organisations, State agencies and the wider community for their views on swimming pool safety and the proposed amendments to the act.
The Swimming Pools Act was introduced in 1992 to require four-sided child resistant barriers to a prescribed standard to surround private pools in NSW.
In 2008, a comprehensive review of the Act was carried out to identify necessary amendments to enhance the safety of children under the age of five years old around residential swimming pools in NSW. The Swimming Pools Act 1992 Review – Options Paper was released in 2009. This work informed the development of the Swimming Pools Amendment Act 2009, which commenced on 14 December 2009.
