There are some exiting times ahead for SPASA as we start to move towards a new era here in SA.
The newly formed SPASA Australia has been approached to consider backing an international event to be hosted in Adelaide. The conference is a relatively new one and was hosted this year in Portugal. It will be hosted in Italy in 2013 (conference is biennial). Further information about the conference can be found at www.icsps-rome2013.it/ (2013) or www.isep.ipp.pt/swimmingconference/conteudo.php?lg=2 (2015). Andrew Houey from the Adelaide Convention Bureau has already been in contact with the organisers of both the 2011 and 2013 conferences, and both were positive in receiving a proposal to host the conference in Adelaide. Adelaide has a number of strengths in swimming pools and spas, particularly in the academic areas of water quality and public health through the Environment Institute at the University of Adelaide. Additionally, the largest single-built aquatic hall in the Southern Hemisphere, which exceeds the FINA international competition standards, has recently finished construction in Adelaide. Further updates on the conference will be indicated on www.icsps-rome2013.it over the coming weeks.
