The finest of them all

The winner of the Belle Coco Republic Interior Design of the Year award has been announced, and this year’s ‘belle’ of design is in fact, a gentleman.

On May 22, Melbourne interior designer Hecker Guthrie took home the Interior Designer of the Year award, presented by Belle and Coco Republic.

Belle editor-in-chief, Neale Whitakes, praised Guthrie for taking “Australian interior design and decoration in an intriguing new direction, which is as refined as it is industrial, and as glamorous as it is raw”.

Guthrie’s celebrations will continue overseas, as he won two return flights to Maison et Objet in Paris, plus a package of other prizes including Parisi bathroom products, a Smeg fridge and Cadrys and Coco Republic vouchers.

Now in its third year, the Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards seek to recognise and celebrate Australia’s interior design talent across the commercial, corporate and residential sectors.

The ceremony was held over a champagne reception at the Coco Republic Design School in Alexandria, Sydney, which had been transformed with abundant foliage, drapery and Coco Republic furnishings into an opulent garden lair.

Other category winners included; Greg Natale Design (Sydney) in the residential title; Pascale Gomes McNabb (Melbourne), who won in hospitality; George Livissianis (Sydney) in the commercial sector, and Foolscap Studio (Melbourne), who won the corporate award.
