Winner of the Victorian AIA Chapter Award announced
Last month, Techne Architecture + Interior Design won the Commercial Architecture Award at the 2014 Victorian Architecture Awards for its design of the Prahran Hotel.
An iconic reinvention of a 1940s pub on High Street, the Prahran Hotel was chosen due to its inspiring and unconventional nature, which also resulted in the project’s global following and winning a host of additional awards.
“We were very honoured and pleasantly surprised to receive the award last Friday night, especially given the high calibre of projects in the commercial category. The Prahran really was a collaborative effort so it was nice for the team to be recognised by such a well-regarded award in the industry,” says Justin Northrop, director of Techne Architects.
The Australian Institute of Awards (AIA) program recognises innovative design and architecture from across Australia. The Victorian AIA Chapter Awards honour projects that demonstrate architectural skill and enhance the advancement of Victoria.
The eight categories in the awards include Small Project, Residential, Urban Design, Heritage, Public, Residential Multiple, Interior and Commercial architecture, in which Techne Architecture + Interior Design received yet another accolade for the renowned Prahran Hotel.
Winners in each category will now progress to compete for the National Architecture Awards to be announced 6 November.
