IHG introduces voco to Sydney's CBD
Chinese-backed developer, Linzhu, has switched their Intercontinental Hotel Group holding for their Pitt Street location from Holiday Inn to the more upscale brand of voco.
This switch will mean the fifth Australian hotel for the voco brand since its launch here mid last year.

The British hotel giant, IHG, will take 301 rooms in the 17-storey mixed-use development by Linzhu, which is in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. The new voco brand has grown and expanded rapidly in Australia, announcing five locations in less than 12 months since it launched. The ‘voco experience’, as explained by the Financial Review, offers premium beds, superior showers, innovative lighting and user-friendly technology and guests can enjoy swift check in and design-led bars.
Linzhu acquired the Sydney Central site, at 430 Pitt Street, in 2014 for $37 million when it was zoned as a part-residential and part-hotel scheme before moving on to the current offer amid an under-serviced hotel market in Sydney’s CBD.
That being said, this market is set to boom with the W Ribbon, Ritz-Carlton at the Star and Crown Resort at Barangaroo all under way.
The Pitt Street tower features a 10-level hanging garden on its roof, described by the developer as a ‘green waterfall’ and will cost over $60 million to complete. The site also contains a through-site link to create a public laneway. The hotel is moments away from the iconic Capitol Theatre with the George Street light rail at its doorstep.
The hotel is set to open its doors in 2020.
