Reimagined Retro Design
This stunning home located in Brisbane was originally built in the ‘60s and was due for a refresh. Small and localised renovations over time had taken away some of the original charm the homeowners now wanted back, while still having a modern touch. Overall, functionality was also lacking for what they needed, with only open shelving and a stainless-steel benchtop.
The owners wanted to bring more natural light into the space as this was limited due to the surrounding bushland. They wanted to create an open-plan area that would flow well into the living zones.
The designer executed all of this flawlessly, making the focus the kitchen island with a white benchtop that bounces light around the room. Additionally, a contrasting dark panel for the breakfast bar area on the island adds visual intrigue. An abundance of cabinetry was added to maximise kitchen storage; EGGER brand low-carbon Eurodekor panelling was used for the joinery, all finished with the EGGER PerfectSense anti-fingerprint coating in Graphite Grey, which works to expand visual depth.
To bring the outdoors in, the lush Australian bush was made visible over the stove with a splashback window that allows the sun to stream in, creating a more cohesive feel throughout the kitchen and surrounding landscape.
