Rinnai Partners with AGIG to unveil Australia’s first hydrogen-powered home – HyHome
Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) has unveiled Australia’s first hydrogen-powered home – HyHome, providing a window into future low-carbon energy solutions for Australia.
Hydrogen is a clean, versatile, and abundant energy source that can revolutionise the way Australians power their homes and businesses. The Rinnai hydrogen powered appliances used for heating and hot water in the HyHome are a world first, producing zero carbon emissions when powered by renewable hydrogen and offering a sustainable alternative to traditional gas and electric appliances.
With hydrogen, Australian consumers can continue to enjoy the legendary comfort, convenience, efficiency and reliability of Rinnai gas heating and hot water, as they have for more than 50 years, whilst reducing their carbon footprint. We are very excited to be working with AGIG on the hydrogen transition.
Hot Water
The Rinnai Hydrogen Hot Water unit has a gas input rating of 70MJ/h and a hot water capacity of 10 litres per minute at a 25 degrees celcius rise. As the uptake of this technology increases, the capacity of the system will be scaled up to match the 32 litres per minute flow rates of current products. Once the product transitions into mass production, the size of the unit will also be reduced.
Heating
Another Rinnai Hydrogen Hot Water unit is powering a heat exchanger in the roof of HyHome. So, the ducted heating in the home is running on hydrogen energy – paving the way for how Rinnai can warm your home but not the planet.
