$2M Transformation: Conquest Unveils Queensbridge Development

Private equity real estate firm Conquest has unveiled plans for a $250-million transformation of Castlecrag’s ageing Quadrangle Shopping Centre, reimagining the 5200-square-metre North Shore site as Queensbridge — a mixed-use retail, dining and lifestyle precinct that will also include 38 luxury residences.

Now dubbed 100 Edinburgh, the project has been granted development approval following extensive community consultation, and construction is expected to begin within weeks.

The site was purchased for $68.8 million from Greencliff founder Dr Stanley Quek, who had held the property since 2016.

“By Wednesday we were introduced to the deal, on Thursday it passed our investment committee and by Friday we shook hands with Dr Quek and secured it unconditionally,” said Conquest chief executive Michael Akkawi, emphasising the firm’s swift acquisition strategy.

The landmark redevelopment — located just under 10km from the Sydney CBD — has been years in the making. Since opening in 1978, the Quadrangle had long served as Castlecrag’s central shopping village, but recent years saw increased community frustration over its decline and the slow pace of renewal.

With approval now secured by the Sydney North Planning Panel, the redevelopment promises a new supermarket, premium retail tenancies, and 163 underground car spaces. Among these, 100 will be allocated to commercial users, 55 to residents, and eight will replace existing street parking.

Crucially, the design responds to Castlecrag’s architectural legacy. First envisioned by Canberra’s designers, Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin, the suburb is renowned for its integration with natural topography and bushland. The new plans preserve 32 trees — including all street trees — and introduce 1150 square metres of publicly accessible open space, including a piazza designed to host community events.

Community reaction has been mixed but largely constructive. Of 421 submissions, 121 were in support, 98 raised qualified support with concerns, and 96 voiced issues without outright objection.

An onsite experience centre is expected to open soon, offering locals and prospective buyers a closer look at Queensbridge’s next chapter.
