Hardie Grant’s new headquarters in Collingwood is more than just a workplace—it’s a celebration of storytelling in all its forms.
Designed by Carr, the interior fit-out translates the publishing company’s creative spirit into a warm, textured and human-centred environment. The result is a workplace that unifies Hardie Grant’s diverse media, publishing and marketing arms, while welcoming authors, collaborators and staff alike.
From the outset, Carr was involved in the building selection process, working with Hardie Grant to identify T3 Collingwood—a 15-level mass timber development—as the ideal location. With a brief that called for warmth, colour and creativity, Carr’s approach was to let both the brand and building speak. “As a suburb, Collingwood reflects the lively and eclectic personality of Hardie Grant and its people,” says Carr Associate Director Catherine Key. “The workplace must welcome—not alienate—those coming through the space.”
Visitors arrive into an open and light-filled space where curated books and comfortable furnishings set an immediate tone of inclusion and creativity. The low-profile joinery and furniture frame expansive views and allow natural light to illuminate the rich material palette, connecting the space to the broader urban context of Collingwood.
Moving through the office, a library archive now proudly lines a central corridor. Once hidden in the previous workplace, it’s now a daily touchpoint for staff, reflecting Hardie Grant’s roots in print while encouraging spontaneous interaction and inspiration. Cork floors, raw MDF shelving and terracotta-toned joinery reference both the building’s timber structure and its distinctive façade.
Scattered throughout are accents of colour and moments of pause, from textural rugs to tactile materials. These playful touches gently guide movement and support a flexible working environment. Meeting rooms, quiet areas and modular joinery systems offer adaptability and focus, particularly for the editorial team.
Balancing old and new, tradition and evolution, Carr’s design reflects a company poised for its next chapter—one where every surface, space and shelving unit holds a story waiting to be told.
