In Delhi’s Dhan Mill compound, design studio DesignHex has unveiled a flagship store for fashion label Papa Don’t Preach that captures the brand’s bold aesthetic through expressive form and layered materiality.
Led by designer Shimona Bhansali, the project translates the label’s distinctive visual language into an immersive, sculptural retail environment.
The facade establishes the store’s narrative from the outset, inspired by folkloric underwater landscapes. Two tonnes of hand-carved natural wood have been transformed into a surface alive with sculpted sea creatures and organic plant forms. CNC-cut details and high-relief panels introduce texture and depth, while sage green and lavender pigments lend a soft iridescence that shifts with daylight. Completed in just 60 days, the handcrafted exterior creates a striking prelude to the spatial experience within.
Inside, the interior palette continues the brand’s signature tones, enveloping visitors in soft pinks and blush hues that echo the Mumbai flagship. Existing structural columns have been reimagined as tree-like sculptures, their branching forms extending across the ceiling to suggest growth and creative connection. The surfaces are coated in textured pink paint, achieving both visual cohesion and tactile warmth.
A patchwork of pink and white marble flooring introduces material contrast while maintaining chromatic harmony. Pockets of micro-concrete add subtle variation and texture, complemented by abundant natural light from large windows that shift the perception of space throughout the day.
The layout prioritises flow and storytelling, integrating product display areas with curated zones for reflection and interaction. This approach supports the brand’s performative, narrative-driven identity while ensuring a seamless retail journey.
Situated within the evolving Dhan Mill compound, now a thriving cultural and commercial hub, DesignHex’s intervention positions the Papa Don’t Preach flagship as a design statement in its own right. The result is a store that fuses fashion, art, and architecture into a singular experience, where blossoming silhouettes and handcrafted details embody the spirit of the brand.
