A multi-level residential project resolving a steep site through pavilion planning and integrated Shadowline® skirting and door jamb systems, supporting clean junctions and streamlined installation on site.

Designed by Enclave Architects, the 520sqm residence responds directly to a steep 35-degree fall and uninterrupted views across Lysterfield Park. Rather than imposing a single volume, the home is arranged as a series of pavilions that step with the land.
This approach reduces the need for extensive site intervention while creating a clear separation between living, service, and private zones. The result is a plan that balances openness with privacy, allowing each space to operate independently while maintaining overall cohesion.

A Sequenced Interior
Arrival is staged through a landscaped entry sequence, leading to a double-height lobby where views are introduced gradually. Throughout the home, openings and skylights are positioned to draw natural light deep into the plan.
A restrained material palette of polished concrete, dark-stained timber, and minimal joinery supports this approach, allowing spatial form and light to take precedence over applied finishes.

The main living areas are oriented to the north, consolidating kitchen, dining, and living into a single open-plan volume. The kitchen is intentionally resolved as a minimal element, with integrated joinery and concealed appliances maintaining clean sightlines.
Secondary spaces, including guest accommodation and utilities, are located within a separate wing, while bedrooms occupy the upper level to provide privacy and elevated views.

Intrim Shadowline® as a Defining Detail
A key aspect of the project is the consistent use of Intrim’s Shadowline® skirting and door jamb system throughout the ground floor.
Unlike traditional skirting and architrave detailing, the Shadowline® system is fully integrated into the wall construction, allowing walls, floors, and door frames to meet flush without the need for applied trims. This reinforces the clean, uninterrupted lines that define the interior.
Beyond aesthetics, the system also addresses buildability.
As an exclusive Intrim solution, the SK800 Shadowline® flush finish skirting and door jamb system is designed to streamline installation on site. By removing the need for additional framing elements such as noggins, it simplifies construction sequencing and can reduce installation time by up to 30 percent. This makes it particularly suited to projects where both precision detailing and construction efficiency are priorities.

Connecting Interior and Landscape
Material continuity between interior and exterior reinforces the home’s connection to its setting. Expansive glazing maintains constant visual access to the landscape, while internal garden elements introduce greenery into the centre of the plan.
Natural light, controlled views, and restrained finishes work together to create a series of spaces that feel both open and grounded.

House on the Hill demonstrates how careful coordination between architecture and detailing can shape the overall success of a project. By resolving junctions early and integrating systems such as Shadowline® into the design, the project achieves both visual clarity and construction efficiency.
