Queensland Fund Unlocks 3,700 New Homes

The Crisafulli Government is investing $50.9 million in critical infrastructure projects on the Sunshine Coast to unlock more than 3,700 new homes, accelerating residential development across two growing communities.

As part of Round 2 of the Residential Activation Fund, funding will support the infrastructure required to bring new housing opportunities forward, including the Southern Road Link in Palmview and the School Road Trunk Stormwater Upgrade in Maroochydore.

The largest allocation of $46.6 million will deliver the Southern Road Link, including a new major crossing over the Mooloolah River to improve connections between Palmview and Caloundra. The project will include a new sub-arterial road, bridge, cycle lane, shared path and intersection upgrades to support future residential growth.

A further $4.3 million will fund the School Road Trunk Stormwater Upgrade in Maroochydore, delivering essential stormwater infrastructure including pipelines and box culverts to enable new housing development.

Across Rounds 1 and 2, the Residential Activation Fund represents an almost $138 million investment on the Sunshine Coast across four projects, unlocking more than 5,550 new places to call home.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the investment demonstrated the importance of delivering enabling infrastructure alongside housing growth.

“The Crisafulli Government’s Residential Activation Fund is pulling every lever to increase housing supply, because you can’t build homes without the roads, water and sewerage infrastructure to support them,” Mr Bleijie said.

“These two projects will unlock more than 3,700 extra places to call home for Queenslanders while supporting growing communities on the Sunshine Coast.”

The Residential Activation Fund has now unlocked capacity for more than 100,000 homes across Queensland, supporting the delivery of additional housing supply through partnerships with councils, landowners and developers.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Member for Buderim Brent Mickelberg said the Southern Road Link would provide important infrastructure for Palmview’s future growth.

“The Southern Road Link will provide critical road infrastructure to support new housing, while helping unlock commercial development and access to essential services,” Mr Mickelberg said.

Minister for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the School Road Trunk Stormwater Upgrade would provide the foundations needed for future housing.

“Queensland can’t build the homes we need without first delivering the infrastructure that makes new development possible,” Ms Simpson said.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli said the funding would help support the region’s continued growth by ensuring housing could be delivered alongside essential services and transport connections.

The Residential Activation Fund forms part of the Queensland Government’s broader housing strategy, which includes investment in infrastructure, social and affordable housing, first home buyer support and initiatives designed to increase housing availability statewide.
