Wunya House: Natural Texture and Refined Coastal Design

A stunning coastal retreat located in Noosa, Wunya House embodies the relaxed beauty of its surroundings. Soft curves, warm natural tones and handcrafted textures come together throughout the home, creating a refined yet relaxed aesthetic that feels perfectly suited to its coastal setting.

Curved walls and sweeping architectural forms are a defining feature of the project, softened by a considered palette of timber, warm neutrals and natural finishes. Rockcote Finecote Hydratech, MicroStone and Otsumigaki were each specified for different areas of the home and expertly applied by Complete Rendering, allowing texture and materiality to become an important part of the overall design.

Across the exterior, Finecote Hydratech was used on all external wall finishes. Its refined, fine texture complements the home’s curved façade, large arches and clean architectural lines without taking attention away from the form itself. Against the surrounding tropical greenery and warm timber detailing, the understated finish creates a fresh, cohesive exterior. Finecote Hydratech also provides enhanced water repellency and long-term exterior protection, making it well suited to the demands of an external architectural finish.

Inside, MicroStone was specified across the bathroom walls and wet areas, bringing the sophisticated appearance of natural stone to these spaces through a seamless microcement finish. Its subtle texture and natural character complement the soft, refined aesthetic of Wunya House, while the seamless application helps create a cohesive finish across the bathroom surfaces.

Otsumigaki was selected for the curved feature wall and internal staircase walls, where its handcrafted character is particularly effective. Inspired by traditional Japanese finishing techniques, the clay and lime plaster creates a smooth surface with subtle depth and natural variation. Across the large curved surfaces, changes in natural light reveal the movement and variation within the finish, adding warmth without overwhelming the simplicity of the interiors.

Together, the three finishes create a consistent material story from outside to in. Finecote defines the sculptural exterior, while MicroStone and Otsumigaki bring tactile character to key interior spaces.

Wunya House demonstrates how thoughtful specification of texture and finish can enhance architecture, allowing surfaces to become an integral part of the design while maintaining the relaxed character of a contemporary Noosa home.
