Established in 2012, the Living Future Institute of Australia (LFIA) operates as an affiliate of the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), a prominent environmental NGO dedicated to offering global solutions for a socially just, culturally rich, and ecologically regenerative world.
LFIA plays a pivotal role in propelling positive change in the Australian built environment by promoting design practices that not only minimize harm but also actively contribute to environmental well-being. Their initiatives encompass a wide range of programs, including Zero Carbon Certification, the Biophilic Design Initiative, Declare® program, industry education, regular training events, and technical advisory services.
GH Commercial has been a proud major sponsor of LFIA since 2019, becoming the first floor covering manufacturer in Australia to achieve the prestigious Declare Red List Free accreditation. Today, we proudly hold the highest number of Declare Red List Free labels in Australia, spanning across various product ranges and relevant brands, with the portfolio continuously expanding. Currently, GH Commercial holds 21 Declare Red List Free labels, covering over 80 standard products and an extensive range of custom products.
Our enduring partnership with LFIA aligns with our Believe in Better® sustainability framework, particularly under the Better for Performance pillar. This ensures that many of our current and future products bear the Declare Red List Free certification, showcasing our commitment to sustainable practices.
Declare® Certification, a program offered by LFIA, provides transparent and comprehensive information about building product specifications through a ‘nutrition’ label of ingredients. Manufacturers are required to disclose the complete chemical composition of their products to a threshold of 100-parts-per-million. Each label is then assessed against the Red List, a compilation of worst-in-class materials known for their detrimental impact on the environment and human health.
Based on the assessment, products are categorized into three label types: LBC Red List Free, LBC Red List Approved, and Declared. GH Commercial is proud to announce that all products carrying the Declare® label have achieved LBC Red List Free status, indicating they are free from harmful chemicals present on the Red List. This accomplishment is a result of our concerted efforts across the entire supply chain to source and utilize the healthiest possible manufacturing components, meeting LFIA’s exacting standards.
GH Commercial currently holds Declare Red List Free labels for our Australian Made Solution Dyed Nylon (SDN) and Designer Jet® products, along with a wide range of wool broadloom carpets and carpet tiles.
The implementation of Declare labels empowers our clients to make well-informed decisions when selecting flooring options, ensuring we collectively strive to create healthier and more sustainable built environments.
