Austaron Surfaces

The fitout for the Goondiwindi Library forms part of a broader community and cultural hub, where a library and lounge are thoughtfully connected to the heritage theatre via a glazed conservatory link. Within this setting, the design was driven by a key objective: to create a wonderland where children can explore, imagine, and fully immerse themselves in the library environment.

At the heart of the space is a large, curved seating element with integrated bookshelves, forming the focal point of the children’s area. Given the high level of interaction this zone was expected to receive, the specification required a surface that was both durable and hygienic, as well as easy to maintain.

With a crisp white aesthetic envisioned for the curved joinery, Staron in Pebble Frost was selected for its superior performance. Its non-porous nature makes it a low-maintenance, long-lasting solution, ideally suited to the interactive library environment. Staron’s ability to be curved and seamlessly joined enabled full customisation of the seating and bookcase feature, delivering a cohesive, moulded form that defines a room within a room while maintaining connection to the wider space.

Staron also extends to the main reception counter, where it has been seamlessly applied to create a clean, durable and welcoming point of service. The ability to achieve continuous surfaces across joins and junctions ensures a refined finish that performs under the demands of a busy public environment, while maintaining a consistent visual connection throughout the space.

Although a hard surface, Staron’s composition offers a soft, silky feel, providing warmth and a user-friendly finish for all who come into contact with the space. The result is a striking and functional installation that showcases the design versatility and performance capabilities of Staron, and continues to perform within the active library environment today.
