COMPARTMENTO Vide Brings Considered Organisation Inside Kitchen Drawers

Kitchen design is often judged by what can be seen: the cabinetry, benchtops, appliances and carefully selected finishes.

Yet the quality of a kitchen is also determined by what happens behind closed doors. COMPARTMENTO’s Vide drawer inlay system brings this less visible aspect of interior design into focus, treating the organisation of everyday utensils as an extension of the kitchen’s architectural detailing.

Designed to sit within existing drawers, Vide combines a fitted base with adjustable dividers that allow users to organise their contents according to individual needs. Rather than relying on a collection of loose organisers, the system is designed to fit a range of drawer widths, creating a more integrated solution for kitchen storage.

The inlay uses a flexible wing system to accommodate internal drawer widths from 400 to 1,000 millimetres. Three magnetic dividers are included, allowing the internal compartments to be repositioned as requirements change. The combination of silicone, steel and magnets provides a tactile contrast to the timber, laminate or lacquered cabinetry surrounding it.

This attention to internal organisation reflects a broader shift towards increasingly bespoke kitchens, where functionality is considered at every scale. Drawers are no longer simply storage boxes beneath a benchtop. Their internal configuration can influence how efficiently a kitchen operates, helping users locate utensils quickly and maintain order across busy preparation areas.

Vide’s restrained design language also speaks to the growing emphasis on continuity in custom joinery. While external cabinetry establishes the visual character of a kitchen, carefully resolved internal systems extend the same sense of precision into areas that are less immediately visible. The result is a more complete approach to kitchen design, in which organisation is planned rather than added as an afterthought.

The system is particularly relevant to contemporary kitchens where concealed storage helps maintain uncluttered benchtops. By giving utensils and everyday tools a defined place, internal drawer organisation can support the clean surfaces and minimal visual interruptions often sought in residential interiors.

COMPARTMENTO’s Vide demonstrates that innovation in kitchen design does not always require a new appliance or an entirely different material. Sometimes, the most meaningful improvements occur within the joinery itself. Through adjustable compartments and a fitted form, the system brings greater flexibility and precision to one of the kitchen’s most frequently used elements.
