Kaschkasch captures morning stillness in new Antao bathroom collection

Inspired by the fleeting stillness of early-morning forest walks, German design studio Kaschkasch has unveiled Antao – a new bathroom collection developed in collaboration with Villeroy & Boch.

Anchored by soft, sculptural forms and a calming palette, the range explores how the imperfect beauty of nature can shape contemporary bathroom design.

Founders Florian Kallus and Sebastian Schneider began the project with an observational exercise: photographing dewdrops at dawn. The refracted light and irregular symmetry of these small forms became the foundation for the first piece in the series – an asymmetric, surface-mounted ceramic washbasin. This washbasin set the tone for the rest of the collection, which includes baths, mirrors, taps and furniture, all characterised by gentle curves and a sense of visual softness.

“We wanted to create something that feels calming but not clinical,” says Schneider. “There’s a subtle dynamism in asymmetry that still feels balanced.”

Materiality plays a key role in reinforcing the collection’s organic intent. Alongside Villeroy & Boch’s signature ceramic work, Antao features tactile finishes in stone and timber, chosen to echo the texture and visual depth of the natural world.

Colour is also central to the collection’s identity. Alongside neutral tones such as Almond and Stone White, the designers have introduced Morning Green, a subdued new shade developed exclusively for the range. “It’s an earthy, desaturated green that feels restful to the eye,” says Schneider. “Nothing like the notorious moss green from the seventies.”

Antao is not a rigid suite, but a flexible ecosystem. Each piece is designed to work alone or in dialogue with others, giving architects and designers the freedom to curate a bathroom that suits the context and user alike.

This collaboration continues Villeroy & Boch’s legacy of working with leading design voices to push the boundaries of bathroom form and function. Founded in 1748, the German ceramics brand continues to fuse heritage craftsmanship with contemporary design thinking – as seen through Kaschkasch’s poetic take on nature’s quiet geometry.
