Tucked into the natural bushland north of Brisbane, Happitat Adventure Park is the kind of place that invites you to look up. Steel cables stretch across the skyline – with platforms perched high above the forest floor and the hum of anticipation carries through the canopy. It is an outdoor playground designed not to replace nature, but to immerse visitors in it.
At its heart, Happitat is a high ropes and aerial adventure park. Suspended obstacles challenge balance and bravery, while ziplines send participants gliding through the treetops. Families move through courses together and kids discover a new perspective of the bush they thought they knew. The experience is physical, but it is also reflective. Being elevated among the branches sharpens awareness of the landscape below.
What sets Happitat apart is not only the thrill of the courses, but the considered way the park has responded to the land itself.
During development, sections of the site were found to be overly dense. For safety and forest health, selective clearing was required. Rather than removing the timber and moving on, the team chose to repurpose it.
Trees removed from the site were milled and transformed into benches, communal tables and informal seating throughout the grounds. Rough edges were retained where possible, preserving the character and story of each piece. Visitors now sit on timber that once formed part of the canopy above them.
Much of this furniture was coated in CUTEK® CD50 clear oil to preserve the natural look and grain of the timber while protecting it from the elements. The clear oil enhances texture and depth without masking the wood, allowing its organic tones to remain the hero of the space.
The park’s main building features substantial timber beams finished in CUTEK® Colourtone Black Ash, a deep charcoal tone that pays homage to the bushfires that have shaped Australia’s landscape. Referencing the blackened trunks left in fire’s wake, the finish acknowledges both fragility and resilience, visually anchoring the structure while the surrounding living forest stands as a symbol of renewal.
Happitat is more than an adventure park. It is a thoughtful integration of recreation, resourcefulness and respect for the Australian bush.
