Using inappropriate timber species for building applications is a major cause of reduced life for timber products.
WoodSolutions’ new app SpeciesSolutions is set to change this by suggesting a range of appropriate timber species for applications and providing details of local suppliers. “The new SpeciesSolutions app will match your next DIY project with the correct timber species for the job,” says Sarah Downey, senior marketing and communications manager at WoodSolutions.
Using an easily navigable interface, SpeciesSolutions helps users match timber species to their best-suited application, such as Victorian ash for interior flooring and cupboards, and links to a database of more than 450 timber suppliers. SpeciesSolutions has become the first port of call for anyone beginning a project that uses wood and wood products.
“Wood is a renewable resource, so when you build with wood, you are helping to tackle climate change,” says Sarah. “Studies also show that wood and other natural materials in the home and workspace can make people feel better and healthier.”
WoodSolutions is an industry initiative designed to provide independent, evidence-based information about timber and wood products to professionals and companies involved in project development and design and construction in the built environment.
This not-for-profit company provides industry generic Environmental Product Declarations, more than 50 technical design guides, webinars, podcasts and a WoodSolutions Campus which has short courses for continued professional development and education.
