Pasta la Vista, a new Italian bistro in Almaty, Kazakhstan, brings a vibrant reinterpretation of Memphis-inspired design to Central Asia’s dining scene. The venue marks the third in the growing Pasta la Vista chain and reflects a strong design identity that merges Italian heritage, local craftsmanship, and contemporary expression. Originating in 1980s Milan, the Memphis style is celebrated for its daring use of colour and geometry.
Here, that spirit finds new life through the lens of Kazakh artisans and modern sensibilities. The bistro’s primary hues—scarlet and olive—echo the brand’s palette, reinforcing visual recognition while infusing the interior with warmth and character. Geometric motifs run throughout the design, from built-in structures to custom furniture and wall treatments, establishing a cohesive visual rhythm that mirrors the diversity of Italian cuisine.
Spatially, the layout achieves balance between openness and function. The entrance is conceived as a symbolic portal, drawing guests into a vibrant yet thoughtfully organised environment. Two shades of red—scarlet and burgundy—set the emotional tone, evoking the energy and passion of Italian gastronomy. A full-height mirror opposite the entry expands the perception of space, while the wardrobe and waiting area are subtly integrated into the overall composition.
In the main hall, a light-toned base contrasts with vivid, in-house designed furniture crafted by local artisans. This commitment to supporting local production has become a defining feature of the design studio’s approach. Accent lighting from Danish brands HAY and &Tradition adds contemporary finesse and intimacy to the space.
A standout feature is the painting Silence by artist Roman Zakharov. Drawing influence from Stanley Donwood’s art and Radiohead’s music, it introduces a meditative counterpoint to the otherwise bold interior. With meticulous attention to colour, contrast, and form, Pasta la Vista embodies a dialogue between creativity and craftsmanship. The result is a playful yet refined environment where modern European design meets local artistry, and every detail contributes to an expressive culinary experience.
