Australian designer Jenny Jones wins international award

Jenny Jones, a Perth-based rug designer, has won the Best Modern Superior category at the 2012 Design awards in Germany. The floorcovering tradeshow took place on January 15 this year in Domotex, Germany, and featured an international team of judges who assessed 211 carpets from 26 countries around the globe.

This is the first occasion that an Australian designer has won such a prestigious carpet award. The win will give Jenny entree into an elite group of designers worldwide. It is particularly special because Jenny is one of only a few women to have been awarded the honour.

The competition entries were judged on design, material quality, unique product features and innovation. Jenny’s winning piece was the aqua-lime colourway that forms part of a new range, the Connextion collection, also available in a range of other colours. This collection is the result of a collaboration between Jenny and the Rajasthan-based Jaipur Rug Company, which goes by the name of Jenny Jones for Jaipur.

“Jaipur has over 40,000 weavers and they selected the best artisans to weave this collection,” Jenny reveals. The relationship between Jenny and the Jaipur Rug Company is a special one. Jenny feels strongly about supporting the community in Rajasthan, India, and this partnership enables her to do just that.
