As open-plan offices dominate the modern workplace, the demand for quieter, more focused environments is rising.
Berlin Acoustics, founded in 2022, is answering this call with a suite of thoughtfully engineered soundproof cabins designed to restore calm and improve productivity—without compromising on design.
Contrary to popular belief, noise is not best fought with more noise. The ambient sounds of birdsong or crashing waves may offer momentary relief, but studies show they don’t enhance long-term focus.
A study by the Fraunhofer Institute confirms this tension: while open-plan offices foster collaboration, variety and creativity, they also reduce productivity by up to 40 per cent due to ambient noise. Rather than abandoning open-plan design entirely, Berlin Acoustics has embraced a more nuanced solution—strategically placed quiet cabins that improve the soundscape for all.
Available in a range of sizes, the BA-Focus, BA-Meet, and BA-Work cabins allow employees to step away from the noise without leaving the space. Phone calls, meetings and project work are relocated into acoustically optimised pods, reducing overall noise levels across the office. The BA-Focus, for instance, occupies just one square metre and can be assembled in under an hour, offering 40-millimetre reinforced acoustic felt and a rear glass wall that transforms it into a visual feature when placed centrally.
Sustainability is central to Berlin Acoustics’ approach. Produced entirely in Germany, the cabins use resource-saving materials, such as recycled carpet fibres, and are built for durability. An upgraded ventilation system, integrated power and data ports, and responsive LED lighting round out the new generation’s functionality. Lightweight aluminium profiling allows for quick assembly, making them ideal for reconfigurable workspaces or project-based teams.
For architects and designers, the minimalist form is intentional. “We’ve made it our mission to support planners by allowing their own interior concepts to shine,” says founder Manuel Diekmann. True to its ethos—‘Quiet. Simple. Timeless.’—Berlin Acoustics proves that silence, when well-designed, speaks volumes.
