Maison New Farm has emerged as a distinctive addition to Brisbane’s architectural landscape, offering a living and breathing piece of design that actively contributes to the suburb’s streetscape.
Conceived by Graya, the project began with a clear brief to deliver something innovative for New Farm, with soft curves, plank form concrete and lush landscaping forming the foundation of its identity.
From the outset, the project team prioritised the environment and the building’s broader contribution to the neighbourhood. Maison needed to deliver luxury for residents, yet its presence on the street was considered equally important. The result is a building that softens the harder edges of its surroundings, using bespoke curved planter boxes as a defining element. These planters were custom designed for the project and feature a wood form finish that adds depth and texture to the façade. Their sculptural quality introduces a sense of calm in a precinct surrounded by more brutalist structures.
Landscaping plays a central role in the project, setting it apart from many multi residential developments in the area. Graya invested heavily in the design and long term viability of the planting, selecting drought tolerant species and incorporating a grey water reticulation system to minimise consumption. This approach supports the building’s sustainability goals while maintaining the verdant character that defines Maison. The effort ensures the greenery remains healthy and visually striking without imposing ongoing operational challenges.
Maison also reflects Brisbane’s evolving architectural confidence. Its soft curves and refined detailing create a compelling contrast between old and new, signalling how far the city has progressed in its design culture. Inside, the luxury sky homes are finished with high end fittings and fixtures, aligning with the project’s commitment to design excellence. Residents benefit from a rooftop community space and pool with expansive city and river views, reinforcing the project’s lifestyle focus.
For Graya, Maison represents their intention to move beyond conventional multi residential development. The practice aims to deliver architecturally significant buildings that enrich their surroundings rather than simply maximise yield. Maison demonstrates that investing in façade design and landscaping can elevate not only a single project but the character of an entire suburb.
