MEAN Middle East Architecture Network has delivered the Send Location flagship store in Dubai, a 300 square metre retail interior conceived as a space for gathering as much as commerce.
Designed for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s lifestyle brand, the project reframes the store as a contemporary Majlis, embedding cultural reference and spatial clarity within a robust architectural framework.
At the centre of the plan sits an octagon shaped Majlis that defines both circulation and experience. Its geometry draws from two lineages, the Arab and Islamic tradition of communal gathering and the octagonal fighting ring associated with mixed martial arts. Inserted within the existing shell, the form negotiates structural constraints by absorbing two intersecting columns into its perimeter. These are clad to create vitrines displaying Nurmagomedov’s fight outfits and memorabilia, preserving the Majlis as the symbolic and spatial core while maximising the footprint. A custom carpet informed by Dagestani textile patterns, reinterpreted through a restrained triangulated graphic, anchors the shared ground.
The material palette is tactile and controlled. Marmorino rendered walls establish a textured backdrop, complemented by polished olive toned finishes that soften the atmosphere. Upholstered seating in faux fur references the traditional papakha, the white sheepskin hat worn by Nurmagomedov, while offering comfort and pause. Strength is expressed through precision and restraint rather than excess.
Retail elements are arranged to encourage movement and interaction. Powder coated steel frames with warm timber inserts are positioned around the Majlis and can be reconfigured for launches and events. Changing rooms are concealed within wall surfaces like lockers, maintaining visual continuity. Each contains a bench and two parallel full height smoky mirrors, creating depth within a compact footprint.
Brand identity is embedded architecturally. A mashrabiya screen reinterprets latticework using the Send Location logo as its module, referencing the geometry of a fighting cage. Behind reception, a neon calligraphy artwork spelling Alhamdulillah by Palestinian Jordanian calligrapher Muthanna Hussein is set against black striated sintered stone panels, establishing a controlled dialogue between light and mass.
Integrated audiovisual systems enable podcasts, live recordings and community events, reinforcing the store’s role as a contemporary Majlis. As founder Riyad Joucka explains, culture and identity are articulated through space, structure and material, positioning the flagship as a social and cultural interior rooted in place yet open to a global audience.
