Mirvac Launches Low Carbon Display Home at Highforest

Mirvac has unveiled its new low carbon display home at Highforest in West Pennant Hills, NSW. Marking a significant step in its commitment to more sustainable residential development.

Located within one of 165 Mirvac designed and built homes, the project sits alongside Australia’s only metropolitan state forest, reinforcing its strong connection to landscape and environment.

The Highforest Display Home brings together contemporary architecture, quality construction and material choices aimed at reducing environmental impact. Every home within the precinct will be constructed using low carbon concrete and timber framing in place of steel, a move that directly addresses embodied carbon in the building process. Solar panels will feature on every rooftop, and the homes are designed as all electric to support lower operational emissions and reduced energy bills for residents.

Mirvac’s General Manager Residential Development NSW, Warwick Bible, said the display home reflects the developer’s ongoing focus on lowering carbon across the lifecycle of its projects. Homes at Highforest are designed to produce fewer emissions even before occupation, supported by passive design principles and a considered approach to lower embodied carbon materials.

Around 185 tonnes of carbon is embedded in the average Australian home, a figure Mirvac is actively working to reduce by drawing on its in house expertise across design, construction and sustainability. The result is a residential offering that responds to both environmental responsibility and evolving buyer expectations.

To further champion responsible sourcing and circular economy principles, the display home has been furnished by Valiant Interiors, a Certified B Corporation. The interiors feature upholstery fabrics and side tables made from recycled plastic bottles, bedheads created from recycled wool and textile waste, and tables crafted from solid Mungur wood sourced from sustainable forests.

Using its purpose built carbon calculator, Valiant measured emissions across manufacture, shipping and delivery, totalling 2,719.64kgCO2e. This was offset through the planting of 109 trees in verified local and global climate projects. By comparison, a similarly sized home furnished without sustainable products recorded a carbon score of 5,000kgCO2e.

Through Highforest, Mirvac is demonstrating how both developers and homeowners can influence outcomes through material selection, responsible sourcing and informed purchasing decisions.
