On the rugged western coast of Corsica, the new Mylos Hotel blends into the landscape with an architectural and interior scheme that connects deeply to the history of Cargèse. Known as Cargèse la Grecque, the village was founded by Greek refugees in the 17th century, and the hotel embraces this layered cultural heritage.
Architecture firm Orma Architettura shaped the exterior with walls formed from soil excavated during construction, giving the hotel an ochre finish that echoes the surrounding earth. The complex is arranged as a cluster of buildings with green roofs, designed to sit comfortably within the village fabric. The main building houses 25 rooms, with a further 10 rooms across two smaller terrace structures.
Inside, Paris-based interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon of Chzon studio has drawn on her personal connection to the village, infusing the interiors with Mediterranean texture and Greek symbolism. Many guestrooms feature bare or lime-plastered walls, allowing the mineral-rich tones to remain visible. Red, blue and green accents punctuate the neutral palette, while cut-out alcoves and half-moon nooks create depth and intimacy.
Throughout the hotel, design details pay homage to Corsican and Greek influences. Black touches in bedrooms reference the traditional hats of local shepherds, while side tables and carved plaster friezes nod to classical Greek columns and motifs. A monolithic stone reception desk incorporates Ionic scrolls, paired with cave-like shelving that reinforces the organic atmosphere.
This naturalistic theme continues in the restaurant, Teos, where curved walls and uneven entrances evoke a sense of grotto-like shelter. The interiors incorporate a range of natural materials, from local stone and soil to Australian and red woods, wool, and cotton, ensuring a tactile and grounded experience.
Landscaped gardens of olive trees and myrtles connect the hotel to its Corsican setting, while the interiors narrate a broader Mediterranean story. By blending local materials with Greek-inspired detailing, Mylos Hotel offers guests a retreat that speaks to both the island’s terrain and its cultural history.
