Home Design editor-in chief, Kate St James, has once again been asked to escort a professional tour to Italy. These tours draw on a network of scholars and colleagues to create a study tour program that focuses on architecture, design and landscape in several locations throughout Italy. In partnership with exhibitions and institutions, the program culminates in an in-depth study of Expo Milano 2015. The result of extensive research, this 15-day program is designed for those with an interest in architecture, building, engineering and design. Additionally, it is suited to those who want to travel beyond the places mentioned in guidebooks and cover multiple disciplines, structures and geographic areas, as well as take pauses for leisure and personal exploration of la dolce vita.
Participants will have unprecedented access to significant sites, with the opportunity to enhance their experiences with debates and input from coordinators, hosts and study colleagues who have wide expertise in a variety of disciplines.
This special study tour focuses on gems of architecture that present rich layers of urban history and offer insight into urban developments. They also highlight the challenges of historic preservation and adaptive reuse of landmark structures to resolve contemporary urban difficulties in a country overflowing with superb cultural monuments.
Combining the Study Tour with Expo Milano 2015 offers a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, spanning not just Italian and European, but also international architecture. Also explored are exhibition pavilions and interiors by a host of countries that are spending millions of euros to competitively exhibit the best of their country. This program is closely linked to the concepts of environment, nature, eco-compatible solutions, and rational use of energy, high-tech systems and sustainable development — all under the provocative theme: Feeding the Planet — Energy for Life.
