Re-lighting the work of Italian designer Gino Sarfatti, or rather bringing his work back to light, appeared to the world’s premier architectural lighting manufacturer FLOS as a fitting and captivating challenge. The concept is fitting as Sarfatti was arguably the greatest Italian lighting designer.
Active between 1939 and 1973, Sarfatti renovated and updated traditional typologies and invented new functions for light, designing more than 600 lamps and light fittings, all of which were produced. This legacy posed a responsibility that could no longer be left on the shelf.
Taking nothing away from the integrity of the lamps’ original forms, it was essential to bring these objects into the present day — re-lighting them by adopting the latest-generation cutting-edge LED technology, which had to be introduced with sophistication without being invasive. Today, the first selection of lamps designed by Gino Sarfatti make their return to light up our homes and, in doing so, tell us something about this inspirational designer.
All re-lighting Gino Sarfatti products from FLOS are available exclusively in Australia from Euroluce Lighting, located in Sydney 02 9356 9900, Melbourne 03 9657 9657 and Brisbane 07 3831 0999.
