Initiator of the prominent Paris Métropole organisation and Deputy Mayor of Paris, Pierre Mansat, will take the stage at Sydney’s Town Hall on October 25 as part of the sixth annual Sydney Architecture Festival.
Discussing his work that has united government officials from Paris and its surrounding areas as a part of a new era of urban planning, Mansat will present a free public talk entitled Reinventing Paris: What can Sydney learn from their planning revolution?
In keeping with the theme of this year’s Sydney Architectural Festival ‘Beyond Boundaries’, Mansat will discuss the ways Paris is dealing with the critical challenges and changing needs of communities, business and the environment.
Aside from his role as Deputy Mayor of Paris, Mansat was asked by the Mayor, Bertrand Delanouë, to examine the way inner city Paris interacted with outer suburbs and communities.
Being a pivotal figure in the major cultural changes being planned for Paris, Mansat’s visit to Sydney is well-timed. Mansat will be able to show through his own experiences how the state government, City of Sydney council and other local governments can work together for a better Sydney.
During his time in Sydney, Mansat will launch the Super Sydney project. One of the Festival’s main events, Super Sydney organiser Tim Williams believes the Sydney Architectural Festival is lucky to have someone of Mansat’s stature share his knowledge.
“We have a lot to learn from Pierre Mansat, particularly in relation to our Super Sydney project, which seeks to gather local insights, inspirations and visions for the future of the metropolis of Sydney,” says Tim. “There are direct parallels between the work Mansat has done with Paris Métropole and our aims for Super Sydney.”
