Otherworld design wins AIA Award

Drew Heath Architects’ Tír na nÓg has won the Australian Institute of Architects Wilkinson Award for alterations and additions to residential architecture in the New South Wales region.

Drew Heath is known for his low environmental impact architecture, passion for handmade and crafted materials, and preference for small projects where intimate detailing can be achieved. Drew’s design was praised particularly for its ‘multiple levels, overlapping spaces and lush vegetation’. It was these design techniques that made Tír na nÓg a unanimous choice for the jury.
Beautiful timbers, glass and concrete combine to create what looks like the ultimate tree house. The jury noting that “its excellence resides in its eccentricity as much as in its cohesion.

Boundaries are blurred; inside to outside, public to private, old to new, grown to made — an Otherworld”.
