Big names looking for tomorrow's bathroom

From Milan to Spain, from the USA to The Netherlands, international design experts are gathering to judge the 2013 Reece Bathroom Innovation Award (BIA).

For eight years the BIA has celebrated the best in bathroom products and design but this year, by welcoming renowned designer and architect Roberto Palomba as a judge, the awards have reached a new high.

As principal at Palomba Serafini in Milan, the addition of Palomba to this year’s panel rounds out an already impressive array of industry experts set to judge the designs after entries close late this month.

International heavyweights such as Stuart Constantine (Core 77 and Corofot), Josep Congost (Roca) and Piet Billenkens (Nobili) have already been confirmed as members of the panel, as well as Australian design icons Shaynna Blaze (The Block, Blank Canvas Design), Greg Natale (Greg Natale Design), Owen Lynch (InDesign Live) and Justin Wagemakers (Blue Sky Design Group, past winner of BIA).

Merging their expertise across design, production and marketing, these judges will be responsible for choosing a designer who best meets the challenge of this year’s BIA — to explore the future and role of technology in the bathroom.

The competition is open to both professionals and students to submit in one of three categories; Destination Space, Sustainable Space and Independent Space. Each winner will take home their share of a $35,000 prize pool, as well as have the opportunity to showcase their work internationally.

Winners will be announced August 15-17.
