Designers make their mark designing future tapware for Reece bathroom innovation award.
The Reece Bathroom Innovation Award (BIA) celebrates award-winning bathroom design with its most exciting brief yet.
The Reece Bathroom Innovation Award is one of Australia’s most respected product design competitions, supporting the design industry since 2005.
Now in its tenth year, the BIA continues to encourage and celebrate innovative bathroom design, providing a platform for entrants to share their talent and gain exposure within the international design industry.
The competition is open to both professional and student designers from 3 February and closes 1 June 2015.
The Brief
In this year’s brief, the BIA challenges emerging and established designers to push the boundaries of bathroom design, and conceive an innovative tapware concept for the contemporary bathroom environment.
“Tapware is an essential part of the bathroom,” said Reece Bathroom Business Manager Daniela Santilli. “We are seeing bathroom products now combining design and function, and tapware is a great example of this trend – it can shape the look and feel of the entire space.”
“The growing focus on the preciousness of water, along with its benefits to wellbeing, has seen designers innovate tapware that addresses everything from sustainability to enjoyable, experiential water use,” said Ms Santilli.
“This year we challenge you, the designer, to create a ground breaking tapware design that addresses key areas of functionality, aesthetics, innovation and manufacturability. Importantly, your entry must meet relevant design and legislation.
The Prizes
The incredible prizes include a prototyping opportunity with Nobili and $10,000 cash reward for the professional winner, as well as a two week internship in Spain and a $5000 cash prize for the student winner – career defining opportunities for the successful entrants.
The Judges
The entries are judged by a panel of industry leaders, who in 2015 include Roca Design Manager, Josep Congost, renowned Italian designer Roberto Palomba, award-winning interior designer and television personality Shaynna Blaze, two-time BIA winner Justin Wagemakers, and more.
“Since its inception 10 years ago, the BIA has striven to encourage and support Australian design – particularly in the bathroom space. For designers looking to make their mark in the industry, or to push their career forward, the BIA offers the resources and exposure to make that happen.”
