VIVID Awards

More than 90 talented designers have been selected to exhibit their work at Melbourne’s premier design event, VIVID (Vibrant Vision in Design). As Australia’s longest-running design competition, VIVID is instrumental in unearthing the next generation of design talent, and will return to Decor + Design at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 16-19 July.

Each year, the standard of entries at VIVID continues to increase, with 2015 boasting a stellar line up of 114 designs. The event provides a platform for new and emerging designers and presents an opportunity for the design industry to catch new products and discover the talent of tomorrow.

“This year’s exhibition will provide an even larger and more diverse showcase of cutting-edge design and innovation than ever before,” says event curator, Caroline Caneva. “We looked for products that show a high degree of thought in form, function and feasibility.”

While designers continue to embrace new technologies like 3D printing, there’s a resurgence of items made with a unique handmade feel, blending craft with technology. This year, it’s all about an organic, earthy look, with a strong focus on texture, featuring matt finishes, timber, cork, concrete, ceramic, stone and powder-coated metals. Colour steps aside while muted tones, smoky greys, bottle greens and other pastels alongside tan and leather-inspired tones have their moment.

The talented finalists will compete to win one of four Awards of Excellence in Design which will be presented on the opening day at the fair on 16 July. Prizes are awarded across market-ready and prototype furniture and lighting design categories.
