Recognising the crucial role of design in shaping the lives of aging individuals, Dementia Training Australia (DTA) has partnered with Constructive Dialogue Architects to present a nationwide series of Masterclasses in Aged Care Design. These interactive one-day courses are specifically tailored to equip architecture and design professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to create meaningful aged care environments.

The Masterclass program is an ideal opportunity for architects, planners, property and development professionals and aged care executives who are interested in building development. By participating in this program, earn 6 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including 1 hour of mandatory training for the National Construction Code. This ensures that your professional growth aligns with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Leading the Masterclasses will be Nick Seemann and Liz Fuggle, both practicing architects and the lead authors of the draft National Aged Care Principles and Guidelines for the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. Their extensive expertise in the field allows them to introduce core design principles for dementia, frailty, and aging and explore their practical application in real projects.

Throughout the Masterclass, engage in a comprehensive learning experience. Develop a better understanding of clients and their unique needs, recognising why environments play a critical role in their wellbeing. In addition, explore the profound impact of design on individuals living with dementia, understanding how spatial layouts, sensory stimuli, and wayfinding systems can significantly enhance quality of life.

The relationship between models of care and architecture will also be examined, as you delve into how different care approaches inform design choices and influence the daily experiences of residents. This holistic perspective ensures that designs align with the principles of person-centered care, promoting autonomy, dignity, and social connectedness.

Practical application will be a key focus of the Masterclass series. You will have the opportunity to review plans and assess live environments, allowing you to put theory into practice. By analysing existing designs, gain valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of various aged care environments, enabling you to make informed decisions and create innovative solutions for future projects.

By participating in the Masterclass series, expand your knowledge and skills in aged care design, empowering you to make a positive impact on the lives of aging individuals. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with like-minded peers working on similar projects and gain expert insights.

Join us for the Masterclass series and take a significant step towards creating meaningful, inclusive, and supportive aged care environments. Together, we can transform the way we design for aging, fostering health, wellbeing and dignity for all.
