WorldSkills Australia has announced its 2024 Australian team, the Skillaroos, who will represent Australia in the 47th international competition, taking place in Lyon, France this September.
The contingent of 33 young apprentices, trainees and students is the largest the organisation has sent overseas since Lyon last hosted the event in 1995. The WorldSkills Australia delegation of competitors, trainers, officials and team management, is the largest ever sent to an international competition.
This year’s competition will have over 1,500 competitors from 65 countries competing in 59 skills ranging from plumbing, carpentry, baking, industry 4.0, cyber security to fashion design.
WorldSkills Australia thanks its industry and TAFE partners who have supported the Skillaroos on their journey and enabled them to achieve their dreams of competing on the world stage.
“WorldSkills Australia would like to thank everyone who has made it possible to send our largest team ever to the 47th international competition,” WorldSkills Australia chair Kevin Harris says.
“The collaborative support from Federal and State governments, TAFE organisations and industry partners is a great reflection of the importance Australia places on skills.”
Among the Skillaroos, young plumber, Sebastian Battista, bricklayer, Ethan Everett and carpenter Trey Mcauley are heading to France to take on the best young apprentices and trainees from around the world.
Ethan says that tailored guidance from his mentor, Andrew Hosking, has helped him refine his technique and instilled in him the philosophy of “fighting for every single millimetre”. Ethan took home gold in the national competition.
