Cantilevered rooftop pool defines Ho Khue Architects’ coastal hotel in Vietnam

Ho Khue Architects has completed Saha Casa Boutique, a sculptural five-storey hotel in Da Nang that reinterprets the city’s coastal hotel typology through organic forms, natural materials, and an eye-catching cantilevered pool.

Situated on Morrison Street, the boutique project departs from the glass-dominated skyline with its bold yellow stone tones, curved façade, and textured detailing that evokes the region’s landscape.

At the rooftop level, a six-metre-long swimming pool projects dramatically beyond the building’s edge. Its transparent acrylic façade offers sweeping views across the coast while giving swimmers the illusion of floating above the city. The cantilevered structure also serves as a visual anchor, reinforcing the building’s connection to water and the surrounding seascape. Throughout the project, the architects have designed for the senses, layering tactile, visual, and auditory experiences through materials, planting, and water features.

Drawing inspiration from the natural geometry of caves, the design alternates between open and enclosed volumes. Arched openings and curved corridors create a rhythm of light and shade, guiding guests through an interior that blends softness with solidity. Granite terrazzo, chosen for its environmental performance and rich texture, modulates the play of sunlight and airflow while maintaining a strong local character.

At the heart of Saha Casa Boutique, a light-filled atrium brings the outdoors in. A small fish pond and clusters of tropical plants establish a calming core, while pathways lined with vertical gardens and emerald-toned carpets encourage exploration across the hotel’s multiple levels.

Founder and lead architect Ho Khue describes the project as a balance between art and hospitality, aiming to create “a building that evokes a sense of architectural art” while remaining deeply attuned to guest comfort. The result is a boutique hotel that feels rooted in place, where architecture, landscape, and atmosphere come together in a seamless, sensory experience.
