A restrained palette of white stained timber, mortar and stainless steel defines the interior of Weekender Shop Andel, a women’s apparel store recently completed in Tokyo’s Kuramae district by local practice NUDE DESIGN.
The boutique marks the second location for the Weekender Shop Andel brand and introduces a spatial concept focused on brightness, clarity and visual openness.
Located in Kuramae, an area increasingly known for its independent retail and design studios, the project demonstrates how a carefully controlled material palette can shape a calm retail environment while allowing merchandise to remain the primary visual focus.
At the centre of the design is the extensive use of white stained wood, which forms shelving, display elements and architectural surfaces throughout the store. The pale timber introduces warmth and softness while maintaining a light and neutral backdrop. Mortar finished walls provide subtle texture, while stainless steel accents add a crisp contemporary note and reflect light through the space.
Natural light plays a key role in the interior strategy. L shaped windows bring daylight deep into the store, creating a bright and evenly illuminated environment that enhances the visibility of the clothing collections. The careful positioning of these openings ensures the space feels open and airy while maintaining a clear sense of spatial organisation.
Within this framework, the design team has arranged display elements to reinforce visual transparency. Open shelving and simple hanging systems ensure that garments are presented clearly without visual clutter. The restrained interior allows the colours, fabrics and silhouettes of the apparel to become the focal point of the retail experience.
The spatial composition is intentionally minimal. Clean lines, pale surfaces and carefully balanced proportions contribute to an atmosphere that feels calm and cohesive. Rather than competing with the products, the interior acts as a quiet architectural backdrop that supports the presentation of the collection.
Through the combination of white stained timber, softly textured finishes and controlled natural light, the project demonstrates how a minimal material strategy can produce a refined retail setting. The result is a space that feels both bright and intimate, offering a carefully considered environment for contemporary fashion within the evolving design landscape of Tokyo.
