The new owners of this spacious luxury unit in Mosman wanted a refresh of their outdated kitchen, laundry, and joinery. Set within the iconic Thirri Tyirri building, the project called for something truly special.

Previously, the extensive use of heavy timber finishes and beige tones created a sombre brown palette that the owners were eager to transform. Their vision was for a contemporary aesthetic featuring high-end design elements, a goal achieved through the careful selection of every material and detail.
As the hero feature, Laminex’s Brushed Bronze metallic laminate, with its warm coppery-gold tones, was selected for the curved rangehood, feature shelving, and island support. This was beautifully complemented by Polytec’s Florentine Walnut WoodMatt timber-look laminate, featuring a subtle woodgrain embossing, which was used for the tall cabinetry along one wall. To balance these statement finishes, Resene Half Spanish White satin was chosen for the remaining cabinetry, providing a calm and neutral backdrop.
A benchtop and splashback worthy of the overall design were essential, and the honed Taj Mahal Quartzite delivered perfectly. Subtle, luxurious, and elegant, it tied the space together seamlessly. Functionality was also greatly improved, with additional storage added along a previously bare wall. This new cabinetry now incorporates a wine fridge, creating an ideal bar or servery area.
The island was redesigned with drawers added to the front, replacing the traditional front-facing overhang. Instead, a side overhang supported by the curved metallic feature now provides seating, creating both a practical solution and a striking architectural statement. This design establishes harmony with the curved rangehood and feature shelving while encouraging a more social and convivial seating arrangement for dining and conversation.
Practicality was enhanced throughout with handleless cabinetry, pull-out bins and shelves, inner drawers, dedicated charging areas for tech items such as USB devices, and an appliance cabinet concealed behind bifold doors. Fully integrated Fisher & Paykel refrigeration and Miele ovens contributed to the clean, streamlined appearance along the appliance wall.
Elsewhere in the home, compact laundries and streamlined wardrobes were also renovated to create a lighter, fresher atmosphere. Beautiful, high-quality, functional, and timeless in style, the completed project is a true signature of Nouvelle design.
