British Fires pairs a flame picture built on real oak logs with an installation that needs no flue or gas line. Here’s what that means when specifying a fire for an Australian build.
Focal Point Fires, the company behind British Fires, received a 2026 King’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category for strong growth in overseas sales. It’s one of the UK’s most respected business honours. Australia is one of the markets behind that growth.
Why specifiers choose it
A British Fires fire needs power. There’s no flue, chimney or gas line to dictate where it goes. It works in apartments and townhouses as well as new builds and renovations, including rooms where a traditional fire was never an option.
In a recent Greenwith, SA home, a low linear British Fires fire was set into a stone-clad feature wall beside the TV. The installation followed the build sequence: frame, electrical, stone, fire.
Realism that sells the space
Every New Forest fire sold in Australia comes with Deluxe Real Logs: genuine oak from sustainable suppliers in Dorset, cut, charred and placed by hand.
The owners of a recent Chifley, NSW home had planned on ethanol. After comparing the options side by side, they chose a New Forest 1600 because it looked like a real fire.
Air Curtain Technology, the patented British Fires design on the New Forest 870 to 2400, sends warm air out through the top of the fire. The log bed sits deeper, with the glass flush to the wall. No visible vents. No frame.
The Black Edition replaces the mirrored back with dark glass and adds anti-reflective front glass by Schott, an Australian specification.
Design flexibility
• New Forest: five widths from 870mm to 2400mm. Every fire ships with a kit for single-sided, left or right corner, or three-sided installation.
• New Forest 650 Square: a square format for smaller walls, single-sided.
• Knightwood: a portrait fire for narrow walls and spaces between windows.
• Ashlett: a compact insert that fits existing masonry or combustible fireplace openings.
• Cavity box: available for installing into a wall cavity or closing off an existing chimney or flue.
For media walls, start with the TV. The New Forest 1600, for example, suits a 55″ or 65″ screen.
Technical specifications
• Heat output: 1500W heater, two on the New Forest 2400
• Supply: 220 to 240V AC
• Thermostatic control: 17 to 27°C
• Flame effect runs with or without heat, all year round
