Luxury Custom Carpets and Hand-crafted Rugs for The Ritz Carlton Melbourne

The Ritz Carlton Melbourne has opened its doors after nine long years in development. GH Commercial were a sole supplier of a range of custom bespoke carpets and hand-crafted rugs to the project and its high-end range fit the brief for opulent flooring that spoke to the cultural heritage of the project.

With a powerful stance of unwavering commitment, the Ritz-Carlton sets the standard for luxury experiences. Occupying 20 floors of the 80 storey West Side Place Complex, spanning across the top 17 floors into the sky of Melbourne’s CBD as well as the initial 3 floors, this tower is comprised of complex shapes of glass and steel, designed by Australian architectural firm Cottee Parker with developer Far East Consortium and interior design by BAR Studio. Offering 257 stylish suites, restaurant, ballroom, executive office spaces and day spa, the interiors of The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne, designed by BAR Studio, are detail oriented and lush within every aspect.

A key goal for BAR Studio was to capture the heritage and culture of Melbourne into the interior design, from Indigenous culture to the Victorian-era gold rush, the interior demonstrates the local history along with its European influence.

Captured in the curated art collection featured within the hotel that pays homage to regional landscapes of the city throughout its past, present and future. Artwork of First Nations Indigenous artists are the centrepieces of this curated collection, demonstrates how artwork crosses the boundaries into architectural pieces. This destination driven design further elevates the experience through the spanning city views that can be seen from the top floors of the West Side Place complex with uninterrupted views from the Sky Lobby on the top floor.

To capture Melbourne’s identity, culture and the essence of Ritz-Carlton’s luxury to life, including providing a highly personalised experience to guests, BAR Studio turned to the team at GH Commercial for bespoke floor covering solutions. The in-house design team at GH Commercial were able to create truly unique carpet and hand-crafted rug designs that brought the detail orientated design to life right through to the flooring.

Each floor covering solution and rug designs was thoughtfully crafted to its assigned space from the suites to corridors, library to ballroom, executive meeting rooms to rooftop bars. Set to become an exciting new venue for event experiences with state-of-the-art facilities, the Ritz-Carlton brings a memorable hospitality experience for all guests.

These custom-made carpet designs implement a range of high-end textile patterns in a neutral colour palette comprised of charcoals and greys with highlight colours including rusts, chartreuse, olives, silver, rich and pale gold and navy, to perfectly match the décor of each interior.

With a range of designs across the public spaces of the hotel, featuring a chevron pattern that brings a sense of cohesion across these designs. This chevron pattern is also integrated with a contemporary tartan overlay to provide colour highlights specific to each space. The subtle chevron pattern, as well as the contemporary tartan pattern that is incorporated within the monumental ballroom which was designed to fit the specific measurements of this space and reflect the unique ceiling features of this area.

Bespoke Woven Carpet

Where traditional weaving meets cutting-edge technology. Made under GH Commercial’s Feltex brand, which is synonymous with high-end quality and design, the woven carpets are made from a rich, premium, wool blend fibre, bringing character and quality to any project. Limited by nothing more than imagination, the companys leading customisation capabilities produce genuinely bespoke carpet designs for uniquely personalised projects. Woven carpet is a popular choice for hospitality venues due to its opulent nature.

The Ritz-Carlton features Feltex’s Woven Axminster carpets in a range of custom designs. These woven carpets are 42 and 48 ounces, with 48 ounce being the highest weighted woven carpet available, ensuring the carpet can withstand high foot traffic requirements of every commercial and residential space whilst providing comfort underfoot. With a wide assortment of designs available in the online library and the opportunity to customise available designs or create a completely unique design, Feltex offer a range of bespoke carpet solutions to complement any decor.

A range of custom hand-crafted rugs are also featured throughout The Ritz-Carlton, utilising design elements present in their broadloom carpet and further incorporating subtle textile design elements to add colour highlights that are specific to each individual interior space. The use of hand-crafted rugs loose laid into entryways and foyers can contribute towards an overall cohesive design interior and bring comfort and warmth into these entrance spaces.
