Designing the Space Behind the Doors: Wardrobe Interiors Reconsidered

Wardrobe interiors have long been treated as secondary spaces, designed primarily for function, with limited attention paid to materiality, finish, or each client’s unique storage needs.

As expectations around storage planning and interior detailing continue to evolve, there is growing interest in wardrobe systems that feel intentional, refined, and cohesive with the home’s overall aesthetic.

Wardrobe Source is a new Australian supplier addressing this shift, offering a curated collection of wardrobe accessories and internal fittings designed to elevate both the function and beauty of storage spaces.

The range includes luxury leather-wrapped handles, trimmable drawer organisers, jewellery trays, and leather-wrapped hanging rails, all developed with an emphasis on material quality, functionality, and thoughtful design. Rather than treating each component as a standalone item, the collection is built around a coordinated hardware system that allows designers and specifiers to select matching elements across wardrobe interiors for a cohesive result.

This modular approach supports consistency in detailing while allowing flexibility in layout and sizing—particularly valuable when handling drawer interiors specifications and working with bespoke joinery.

The collection is offered in six thoughtfully selected finish options:
Matte Gold, Matte Black, Matte Aluminium, Matte Nickel, Slate Grey, and Polished Chrome—chosen to integrate seamlessly with contemporary cabinetry, kitchens, and bathrooms. These finishes are paired with three faux-leather tones:

Oyster, Winter, and Pewter, forming a cohesive palette that complements the metal finishes in the collection.

Beyond aesthetics, function must be addressed, and drawers in wardrobes have long been overlooked from a design perspective. Wardrobe Source’s modular, trimmable drawer components allow for precise adjustment across virtually any drawer size while preserving visual order. They are complemented by stackable jewellery trays and movable inserts that balance refinement with everyday practicality.

In addition to product supply, Wardrobe Source offers consultative support to assist with wardrobe planning and product selection, helping ensure internal layouts align with how spaces are intended to be used by each client.

Much like kitchen design, where understanding how a client cooks informs decisions around drawer layouts, storage zones, and overall functionality, wardrobe interiors benefit from the same level of consideration. Some clients require generous shoe storage, others prefer to prioritise folded garments, accessories, or hanging space. When wardrobes are planned around how people actually live and dress, rather than relying on standardised layouts, the result is storage that feels intuitive, efficient, and genuinely tailored.

“Wardrobe interiors deserve the same level of design consideration as the rest of the home,” says the team at Wardrobe Source. “Our goal is to make that easier through cohesive products and thoughtful planning.”

By approaching wardrobe interiors with the same level of intent as kitchens and bathrooms, Wardrobe Source reframes storage as an integral part of the overall interior experience, where form, cohesion, and function are resolved through considered design.
