Synpave Revives Hay Park’s 1980’s Netball Courts

Bunbury’s netball community has traded four decades of worn courts for a striking new 12-court complex that delivers championship-standard facilities, with the premium Rebound Ace Synpave surface system transforming the Hay Park netball courts from a tired precinct into a facility that finally matches the sport’s modern demands.

The Rebound Ace Synpave system was selected for its proven performance in meeting stringent Netball Australia playing surface requirements. This advanced acrylic surface delivers consistent ball bounce and superior player traction, critical factors for competitive netball performance. As a multi-layer solution applied over a purpose-built asphalt base, Synpave handles the demands of high-usage community facilities while offering the extended lifespan that justifies municipal infrastructure investment.

The installation features a bold Terracotta and Royal Blue colour scheme that transforms the courts into an eye-catching centrepiece, with surrounding Mid Grey pathways that tie the whole precinct together. It’s a far cry from the faded surfaces that once greeted players arriving for weekend fixtures.

Specialist contractor Sport and Recreation Surfaces handled the critical topcoat application over the newly constructed asphalt base, bringing the technical expertise required to deliver Synpave’s exacting performance standards. Their professional installation ensures the system’s slip-resistant properties and UV stability will perform optimally in Western Australia’s demanding climate conditions, while meeting the precise requirements for competitive netball surfaces.

Fulton Hogan was awarded the overall design and construct contract in November 2024, managing the complete demolition of existing courts and construction of new asphalt playing surfaces, before the specialist Synpave topcoat application. The project also included upgrades to drainage, lighting and fencing systems. The comprehensive approach delivered a turnkey solution for the infrastructure upgrade, which reached completion in June 2025.

The original 1980s courts had well and truly reached their use-by date, falling short of modern netball standards that today’s players expect. The new Rebound Ace surface brings the facility up to current specifications while delivering the consistent playing conditions competitive netball requires – an upgrade that’s already winning over the local netball community.

The completed facility represents a significant infrastructure investment jointly funded by the City of Bunbury, the Bunbury Netball Association, and the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. With 12 courts now fully operational, Hay Park has become the netball destination that Bunbury’s growing community deserves.
