The Best Inverter, Three Years in a Row

Fronius have won the award for Best Inverter for the third year in a row at SolarQuotes Installer Choice awards, with an astounding 48% of all votes cast.

If you purchase a Fronius inverter in Australia during 2023, it’s highly likely that you’ll be presented with their latest Gen 24 Model rather than the older ‘SnapINverter’ design, as the latter is gradually being replaced.

This is positive news, as the Fronius Gen 24 serves as a commendable successor, boasting two standout advantages.

Firstly, it operates much quieter. While the previous design was prone to generating considerable noise at higher power levels, the Gen 24, while not entirely silent, maintains a noise level that is sufficiently low not to be a concern. It’s notable that Fronius has retained forced cooling with a fan, a feature that aids in dissipating heat and likely contributes to the longevity of the electronics, particularly in Australia’s hot climate.

Secondly, all Gen 24 inverters offer the option of being upgraded to control a battery via an over-the-air, paid upgrade. This implies that you can initially purchase the solar-only inverter at a similar price point to the old design. Then, if you decide to incorporate a battery later on, this can be retrofitted to the GEN 24. This approach is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly, compared to replacing the inverter or adding a separate inverter solely for the battery. It’s worth noting, however, that currently, the only available battery option is a BYD battery.
