Construction begins on Aura Town Centre on Sunshine Coast

Construction has commenced on the first stage of the Aura Town Centre, marking a significant milestone for Stockland’s masterplanned Aura community on the southern Sunshine Coast.

Developed, owned and managed by Stockland, the initial stage of the town centre will deliver 16,300sqm of retail and commercial space across two levels.

Scheduled to open in late 2027, the project is being built by FDC Construction & Fitout and is designed to become a key destination for the rapidly growing community.

The precinct will feature Woolworths and Aldi supermarkets, alongside a selection of mini-major retailers, 55 specialty retailers and kiosks, and three non-retail tenancies dedicated to service providers, including health and wellness uses. The development received planning approval in June 2025.

Located in the suburb of Banya, approximately 1.6 to 6km east of the Bruce Highway, the town centre forms part of the broader Stockland Aura masterplanned community, which is expected to accommodate around 50,000 residents across 20,000 homes once complete.

The retail hub sits adjacent to the 5.3ha Aura Parklands, where construction began in June 2025. The parklands will feature a swimming lagoon, barbecue and picnic facilities, open green spaces and event areas designed to support community recreation and gatherings.

Adding to the precinct’s appeal, the town centre will neighbour the $45 million Aura Hotel, currently under development by the Comiskey Group and scheduled to open in 2027.

Stockland Executive General Manager for Town Centres Marco Ettorre said the project reflected the company’s integrated approach to community development.

“The Aura Town Centre showcases the strength of Stockland’s diversified business,” he said.

The town centre forms part of a broader pipeline of infrastructure and investment across the Aura community. Plans include a 13ha regional park, 10 sporting grounds and ongoing road upgrades that are expected to open later this year, improving connectivity throughout the precinct.

The wider area is also set to benefit from the nearby $80 million Aura Home + Life precinct, being delivered by Capital Property Group. The large format retail destination is expected to open by the middle of this year, further expanding shopping and lifestyle options for one of Queensland’s fastest-growing communities.
