Hilton Community Centre claims top prize at the WA Architecture Awards

The small town of Hilton WA has a newfound claim to fame with thanks to Bernard Seeber Architects. The Hilton Community Centre was celebrated in Western Australia’s most prestigious fashion by taking out the George Temple Poole Award at the Australian Institute of Architects WA chapter award ceremony.

The annual WA chapter Architecture Awards celebrates outstanding architecture across the broad spectrum of residential, commercial and public buildings within WA.

The George Temple Poole Award is recognised as the highest overall honour at the annual ceremony and celebrates the most worthy of all the award winners across a plethora of categories.

The Bernard Seeber Architects’ design was an obvious choice for the award due mainly to the significant difference it has made to the Hilton community. As the jury mentioned from the Burswood Grand Ballroom on Friday the 6th of July:
"This is quiet architecture, and an architecture that makes a difference to the Hilton community, making people’s lives better by its accommodation of the diverse needs of a maturing community with clarity and a robust elegance."

The Hilton Community Centre showcases how innovative design can speak to a variety of publics. The design contributes to the centre’s roll as a space for public cooperation whilst creating a beautiful area for community congregation.

The design has restored life to what was a tired set of facilities, creating an area for new design and community collaboration to flourish. It is a worthy recipient of the George Temple Poole and John Septimus Roe Award for Urban Design.

Those awarded will now progress to the National Awards held in Perth on the 1st of November.
