Le Belvédère is a new 200-seat restaurant set near Crillon-Le-Brave in Provence, offering sweeping views across the surrounding landscape to Mont Ventoux.
Operated by the Vertigo Group, a Paris-based hospitality collective recognised for its role in shaping contemporary bistronomy, the project combines a strong architectural response with a deep respect for place, climate and local character.
Located in the heart of nature, the restaurant was conceived with the landscape as its primary driver. From the outset, the design team identified the site’s natural power as the central element of the project, allowing the architecture to serve as a frame rather than a focal point. Every decision was guided by the desire to heighten the visitor’s awareness of the environment and to reinforce a sense of calm and attentiveness.
The architecture is defined by soft lines and restrained material choices that create a soothing transition from exterior to interior. Curves were drawn by hand rather than generated digitally, resulting in forms that feel more delicate and human in scale. A sequence of arches punctuates movement through the building, intentionally slowing the pace of arrival and delaying the reveal of the landscape beyond. This controlled progression encourages visitors to become more perceptive, both of the space itself and of their surroundings.
Large bay windows are carefully positioned to frame selected views of Mont Ventoux and the surrounding treetops. These openings also provide gentle natural ventilation, reinforcing the building’s connection to its climate. From the built-in benches that line the glazing, the experience is pared back to essential sensory elements, including the expanse of sky, the movement of leaves and the ambient sound of crickets.
Materially, the project evokes a form of gentle, sunlit modernism grounded in its mountainous context. A subtle rustic quality acknowledges the realities of the Provençal highlands, where winters remain cold and conditions can be demanding. This balance between refinement and robustness allows the building to sit comfortably within its environment.
As a hospitality project, Le Belvédère reflects Vertigo Group’s commitment to quality and provenance, pairing exemplary product sourcing with an architectural language that privileges landscape, slowness and sensory engagement. The result is a destination that positions architecture as a mediator between people, food and nature, rather than a spectacle in its own right.
