Red Sculptural Elements Shape ARKS Flagship Store in Mumbai

Red sculptural interventions define the interior of ARKS’ new flagship store in Bandra West, Mumbai, where Anagram Architects has translated the lifestyle label’s brand identity into a tightly controlled retail environment.

Spanning 1200 square feet, the store presents a restrained spatial framework animated by bold gestures that guide movement and anchor visual focus.

Conceived by Hindi cinema actor Ranbir Kapoor, ARKS targets a young, urban demographic, and the store layout reflects this intent through clear circulation and stage-like moments. Set back from the street, the entry sequence begins with a metal gate and forecourt before a short flight of steps leads into the retail space. This gradual approach establishes a sense of transition from the public realm to a curated interior.

Inside, a linear podium organises the plan, integrating the billing desk and product display while concealing back-of-house functions. Suspended above, a sweeping red display rod becomes the primary sculptural element, setting the visual rhythm and drawing the eye through the space. At the centre, a red bench doubles as both seating and focal point, reinforcing the store’s emphasis on minimal elements with strong presence.

Spatial zoning is achieved through subtle shifts rather than hard partitions. One side of the store is lined with a veneer-panelled wall that discreetly conceals service areas. Opposite, a stage-like alcove houses the fitting rooms and a photo booth, framed by drapery, carpet and a chandelier. This composition creates a contained, intimate zone within the open plan, reflecting Anagram Architects’ interest in choreographing movement through layered experiences.

The palette is drawn directly from ARKS’ signature colours of red, black and white. Externally, a white bulkhead is paired with black tiled cladding and a red metal portal finished in aluminium composite panels. Internally, neutral walls and flooring form a calm backdrop for red accents across display elements, seating and branding, while black tiles and hardware provide contrast and definition.

Lighting is carefully integrated to minimise visual clutter. A Barrisol stretch ceiling conceals fixtures, while mirrored beam fascias counteract the low seven-foot ceiling height, extending the perceived volume of the space. Together, these elements create a structured yet expressive retail interior that communicates ARKS’ identity through material clarity and sculptural form.
