The 2015 Sustainable Housing for Life Design Competition is hosted by Lismore City Council and its partner organisations in a bid to celebrate and promote sustainable modular homes that are adaptable for people at different stages of life as well as Sustainable House Day 2015.
It is now open to residents, architects, designers and young people in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. According to event coordinator, Alice Moffett from Self Seed Sustainability, the world’s first carbon-positive prefab home has hit the market in Australia with an excellent response. This is not surprising considering the momentum behind sustainable design in recent years. Local designers, thinkers and sustainability enthusiasts are encouraged to come up with their own innovative and forward-thinking designs to showcase energy efficiency and clever urban living.
“With all the hype for easy-to-build, modular sustainable homes, we thought we’d bring it to our local designers and sustainable home lovers,” says Alice.
Given last year’s success, with thousands packing the Bangalow A&I Hall on Sustainable House Day to view the entries, the 2015 Sustainable Housing for Life Design Competition will culminate in a Showcase Awards Event & Expo at Lismore City Hall on Saturday 19 September. Residents can view the entries, meet the designers and vote for their favourite design.
The competition has more than $5000 in cash and prizes, and entries are open until 4 September. For more information and to download competition guidelines, visit sevenonsibley.com or lismore.nsw.gov.au/cp_themes/news/page.asp?p=DOC-AKS-68-52-24
