The central theme for the sixth annual Sydney Architectural Festival is "Beyond Boundaries". Looking to promote and support forward-thinking architecture in Sydney, the “Beyond Boundaries” theme hopes to get people conversing about the city’s architectural elements.
"Beyond Boundaries seeks to encourage the celebration, enjoyment and investigation of architecture in our city, in a way that is both outward focused and collaborative," says the registrar of the NSW Architects Registration Board, Kate Doyle. "Now is the time to share knowledge, consider different points of view, assumptions, alternatives and challenges about our architectural surrounds."
The festival caters to both the general public and members of the architecture and design industry. One of the highlights from the program is the Sydney open weekend which is presented by the Historic Houses Trust and offers rare public access to some of Sydney’s most commended architectural buildings. This year they include the sustainable office tower 1 Bligh Street, the Sydney Masonic Centre and the oldest church in the city; St James’s.
A first for the festival, Carriageworks will be host to ArchiKids, which is an architectural workshop for children aged seven to 12 years. Assisted by practising architects and students of architecture, the children will be able to talk about design and create their own architectural models.
The Sydney Architecture Festival will have over 80 events and runs from 24th October until 4th November.
