Curves in the Right Places

Plenum is a sleek and stylish, curved high-back sofa system, designed by Jaime Hayon for the republic of Fritz Hansen.

Created to cater to the changing modern workspace, the series includes a one-, two- and three-seater sofa with features such as power plugs, USB ports and mounted or separate tables.

Plenum is designed to embrace any space or social demand, from collaboration to concentration, or relaxation, fulfilling the needs that arise in the modern workplace.

“In creating Plenum, the overall objective was to challenge the concept of traditional office furniture and create a feeling of home,” Jaime Hayon explained. Combining comfort with functionality to create a public-space seat with a domestic touch, the sofa system can be used in any open office, lounge or hotel lobby, offering the possibility of a refuge for private concentration, a space for working in groups, or a place to be social in pairs.

“Plenum is born from a family of Hayon designs: the Ro™ and the Fri™ chairs as well as the Lune™ Sofa,” notes Christian Andresen, Fritz Hansen’s head of design. “Every one of these items were originally designed for the private home but have proven to fit perfectly in numerous public spaces all over the world,” Andresen concluded. “In Fritz Hansen we value the fact that designers work with us, not for us. That is how we achieve the best results.”

Soft shapes, organic curves and interesting colours separate plenum from traditional square, impersonal office furniture. “It is important to remember that my design is made for humans – to be used by humans,” Hayon added, “I believe that design should provoke emotions. Design should make you feel good and most of all – create happiness.”
